Overcoming Fear in Public Speaking is Success

Hey guys! I’m here again to review the article I have chose. You know, this article really caught my attention and I found it interesting. But before I give you my review about this article, let me just give a brief summary about this. Enjoy reading!

Adam Grant, the author of the article “How I Overcame the Fear of Public Speaking” which is published by the Quiet Revolution on January 2020. This article is all about how does the author overcame his fear in terms of public speaking. In his article, he provided such ways and practices that readers should do for them to master public speaking and those ways provided by the author are based on researches.

Overcoming fear in public speaking is not that so easy. There are a lot of practices that you should do and it also takes time for you to overcome it. The author shared in his article that before when he was a student, he got nervous occassionally in terms of public speaking but that was changed when he did the practices he had shared. Those practices are:

Don’t try to calm down. Instead of saying “I’m calm”, just say “I’m excited.” Practice in front of an audience. Do it first in a small group of people. Lastly, Know your Audience. You will be less nervous if you know the people who watch you.

“You were so tense that you were causing me to physically shake in my seat.” That was what the author received when he had delivered his speech. He highlighted it because that feedback drove him to have more courage to conquer his fear in public speaking. That led him to do the ways he had shared and now, public speaking was his favorite activity.

So now, I have already given you the summary, let’s proceed to my review!

That article is somehow related to my blogs. As you can see in my introductory post, I really want to help my co-students to overcome their fear in public speaking. I wanna give an attention in this topic because public speaking is one of the common issues of different schools. Most of the students don’t have enough confidence to express their thoughts that’s why I chose that article.

The article is also related to issues in our present days because as what I have mentioned earlier, public speaking is one of the problem in schools. Some students say that they don’t have confidence to face audiences because they are afraid to be judged. They are afraid that audiences might criticize them. That’s why I chose this topic. I want to encourage every student to boost their confidence.

The article increased my understanding by knowing those following practices given by the author. I’m not into public speaking actually but I’m still trying my best to be very good at it. Its advantageous for me because I know that it will help me to boost my confidence. Yes it takes time to gain it but I have my determination to overcome my fear.

Recommending this article to other people is a BIG YES! Students must read this article for it has benefits to be taken especially to those who are not into public speaking. I know that we have different strategies in surmounting this fear, but why not to try those practices. It’s not bad if you’ll gonna try. Just don’t give up in gaining confidence.

Confidence is a blessing and not everyone has this. It’s difficult to get along with other students if you don’t have this because as we all know, communicating is very essential in school. Just be yourself. Don’t mind other people because if you do, you’ll just feel more insecure and that won’t help you. Focus on what you are striving. I know all of us will gain confidence soon. Just don’t give up and keep on fighting!
